Ahoy Matey – Shiplap In Interior Design

September 28, 2016

We’ve all seen them: Horizontal planks, one on top of the next, running the length of the walls and usually whitewashed. Shiplap is everywhere in the interior design world. There’s no denying the depth and architectural interest that it lends a house. It gives any room character and can work with various styles. It can read as coastal, cottagey, or even modern if you play it right. Though it is being seen more and more in newly built custom homes, you can find original shiplap (if you’re lucky) in homes built in the early 1900s or earlier. It is usually found in more modest homes from the time as plaster was more expensive and time consuming. Once upon a time in the not so distant past, people renovating old homes would cover shiplap up with dry wall or worse yet, take it down and add dry wall. Thank goodness an appreciation for character and... Coastal Design For Every Location

July 18, 2016

The focal point of any room with a coastal feel should be nature. Working in natural elements and colors creates a design that is in harmony with it's surroundings. From the traditional, soft low country interiors of... Read More

Porches ~ The Best Room In The House

June 23, 2016

We here in the South have a special love affair with our front porches. We sip on our drinks while rocking the hours away and invite our neighbors and friends up to socialize. It is the place where you greet visitors and retire after supper to converse and unwind. A porch is much more than just a porch. It is a first impression and extension of your home. So why should it be treated any differently than any other room inside your home? Create an outdoor room and let it flow with what you have inside your home. You will be using that porch every chance you get, especially with the beautiful autumn weather that is happening. Bringing furniture onto a porch can completely transform it into a fully functioning room. Adding pieces like upholstered outdoor sofas and chairs along with case pieces like coffee tables and bar carts creates... Read More

Do you wear your walls well?

April 12, 2016
